Dry needling is an effective treatment for patients who suffer from any of the following kind of pain:
• Jaw pain
• Arm pain
• Back pain
• Neck pain
• Shoulder pain
• Muscular Hematomas
Dry needling is also an effective form of rehabilitation when it comes to pain and injury prevention.
How Does Dry Needling Work?
This rehabilitation technique works by having a fine filament needle inserted into the muscle also known as a trigger point. Trigger points can also be referred to as trigger sites or muscle knots and are noted as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle.
This treatment can, however, be painful and potentially cause stiffness and restricted motion for the patient. Muscles that are being performed trigger point therapy can have increased levels of chemicals that cause inflammation and pain.
What Can I Expect During the Treatment?
• The physical therapist will clean swab the skin area receiving trigger point injection with alcohol
• The PT then will use a thin, sterile acupuncture needle about 3-4 inches in length and insert it the muscle
• The needle is removed and the procedure lasts less than a minute
